MacArthur’s Park (is melting)

Yesterday Daddy wanted to take a movie break, so I sent him on his way to see Snow White and the Huntsman while I took the boys to a local park.  I was a little nervous since it was 1) a Saturday with likely big crowds, 2) I was by myself, and 3) Peyton is more mobile so I didn’t know how agreeable he would be with things!  Honestly things went really well and the two boys had tons of fun.  There was a birthday party being set up in the shelter in the park, but somehow we timed it so that we had a full hour of play time before the party showed up and over-ran things.  By that point, Peyton was pooped and Jackson was a big ol’ puddle of sweat, even though it was a mere 72 degrees out.

Some pics from the park….

Navigating the rope rings…

No idea what this is called but Jackson loved it! It reminded me of a military camp obstacle…

Pointing to the swings.

Swing time!

Weeeee!!!

Running with the football…

Worn out but smiling for the camera!

Today I got up and made our usual Sunday omelets and toast for everyone.  I also made some cream cheese pastries with fresh strawberries on top.  Jackson was taking his time getting ready so I called him to the table in anticipation of his omelet being on his plate by the time he reached his seat.  He sat down before I had plated his omelet and pronounced, “I’m not complaining about this, but why isn’t my breakfast ready?!”.  Needless to say I was livid :)  After I lectured him about showing a little respect and appreciation to someone who is doing more than just a regular cereal breakfast, I calmed down and we proceeded to eat.  He really laid it on thick after that though, oohing and aaahing over the omelet and pastries and how great of a cook I was.  Boy does he know how to butter someone up!  LOL

Pastries hot from the oven!

The pastries really were good, even if I have to pat myself on the back for that!  I adapted them from a recipe I found on FoodGawker.  I exchanged vanilla extract for the lemon called for in the recipe.  Yum!

So the day was rounded out by us playing games outdoors with Jackson while Peyton slept…first me in the front yard playing Badminton and then Jackson and Daddy with the water shooters in the back.  Afterwards, they ran out to get us Pad Thai take out and rent a few movies (A My Little Pony cartoon was Jackson’s choice, Iron Man was Daddy’s).   We hope you all had a great weekend as well!!
